Men who keep mobile phones in their trouser pockets risk their sperm being “cooked”, a clinical research has revealed.

According to the tests, the sperm counts of men who kept a mobile phone in their trousers for just an hour a day dropped “significantly,” thereby significantly lowering their chances of fathering children, the Mirror reported.

The risk is posed by the electromagnetic waves which cook up the sperms, the researchers says.

Professor Martha Dirnfeld, of the Technion University in Haifa, Israel, said: “We analysed active sperm and found it had been reduced. We think this is being caused by heating from the phone and by electromagnetic activity”.

The study reportedly monitored 106 men for a year and revealed that 47 per cent of mobile phone addicts, had reduced sperm counts.

Scientists have previously raised concern over the use of electronic gadget such a laptops by men and sought to explore the effects of electronic devices on fertility.

A study conducted in the U.S. and published in the medical journal Fertility and Sterility revealed that men who use laptops on their laps are likely to experience scrotal hyperthermia.

Scrotal hyperthermia refers to elevated temperatures in men’s testicles. The st udy found that using laptops on laps can indeed affect the quality of sperm, and consequently affect fertility.
