The accused identified as Joy Omoregie, was arraigned on Friday, September 16, for the alleged assault of one Prisca Evbidan.

The offence was reportedly committed on September 5, at No 5, Okunoghae off Edaiken Primary School, Benin .

During the assault, the accused used her fingers to inflict injuries to the complainan's face and neck.

Prosecutor Chuks Nnamdi, disclosed that the offence contravened Section 351 of the Criminal Code, to which the accused pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate, Mr William Aziegbemhim, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The case was adjourned to November 7 for mention.


Meranti, the strongest typhoon to hit China this year, made landfall in Xiamen City, Fujian, on Thursday, with a maximum 17-grade wind force bringing extraordinary rainstorms.

Fujian flood control authorities said that 18 people died and 11 others were missing in the province.

The typhoon paralysed several cities in the south of the province, including Xiamen, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou.

Direct economic losses in Fujian were more than 16.9 billion Yuan (about 2.6 billion dollars).

Ten people died and four remain unaccounted for in neighbouring Zhejiang after the typhoon brought heavy rainfall.

Zhejiang provincial flood control headquarters said over 902 houses collapsed and over 1.5 million people were affected.

As Meranti waned, China’s meteorological authority issued a yellow alert for Typhoon Malakas, forecasting strong winds and heavy rain.

“Heavy rain will sweep parts of Zhejiang and Fujian, as well as central and north parts of Taiwan from Saturday to Sunday, with up to 120 millimeters of rain expected,’’ meteorological authorities said.

Ekiti State Government which is one of the states owing workers said on Thursday that it had set aside N1.9billion for the construction of a new governors’ office and high court complex in Ado-Ekiti.

The Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Mrs Funmi Ogun, made this known during an open bidding for the two projects in Ado-Ekiti.

Mrs. Ogun said the projects were conceived as part of plans to give the state a face lift in terms of infrastructure development.

She said when completed, both projects would add to the existing “legacy projects” of the present administration in the state.

According to her, the consultants’ proposed bill for the construction of the new governor’s office is N687, 028, 630.63 million while that of the High Court Complex is N1, 299, 613, 897.60.

NAN reports that the contractors that bid for the new governor’s office project at the session included Vyouad Construction Company Limited, Tianjin Yuyang Construction Company and Goodek Ventures Limited.

For the construction of the proposed court complex, Grid Associates Limited and Fovak Construction Limited jostled for the job.

The commissioner said the open tender confirmed the transparency of Fayose’s government and its commitment to prudent management of the state’s lean resources.

She said, “What we are doing confirms the transparency of our government. It shows that Fayose is incurably committed to giving Ekiti a facelift and make Ado-Ekiti capital city a real modern city.

“Ekiti will clock 20 years on Oct.1, 2016 and we have to embark on projects that will make Ekiti a developing state that can compete with other capital cities in terms of infrastructure.

“The High Court we are presently using was inherited from the old Ondo state and constructing a new one of our own will afford us the opportunity to put state-of-the-art equipment.”

The police in Ogun State have arrested two herbalists, identified simply as Quadri and Adam, for allegedly stabbing a man, Wasiu Balogun, and his friend, Wale Aderinto, to death in the Agbado area of the state.

This lady on Facebook who goes by the name Charity Janssen, released a video on her Facebook wall claiming that Nollywood actor, Frank Artus, is owing her money and has refused to pay her back. The Director  of media and publicity of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Bose Aderibigbe revealed that the NYSC is in dire need of funds and resources. Aderibigbe said N10, 500, budgeted by the government, is no longer sustainable to purchase a complete set of kits for each corp member in the NYSC. According to The Guardian, Aderibigbe said that out of the 260,000 corp members to be mobilised this year, 70,000 are still waiting. She said:
