A baby born with a tail has got the tail removed by doctors on Thursday. The 11-month-old baby Yangyang (pseudonym) was born with a tail in Yibin, southwest China’s Sichuan province.
Yangyang’s mother had not been told about any abnormality during prenatal examinations at a local hospital and was startled to find the baby with a tail upon birth.
Yangyang was diagnosed, after birth, with neural tube defects which has an incidence rate of 2‰~3‰. Doctors say the cause of the disease could have been that Yangyang’s mother didn’t take folic acid supplements during pregnancy.
